In-chair for instant results, or home kit for flexibility — both use professional-grade whitening gel available only through dentists.
Many patients choose in-chair Zoom for the initial dramatic lift, then use a home kit for annual maintenance. The custom trays from your home kit can be reused for years — just top up with fresh gel. Ask us about the combination package at your shade assessment.
Whitening works brilliantly for most people. But there are a few situations where we'll be upfront and tell you to wait or consider alternatives.
There's a lot of confusion between bleaching and enamel erosion. They're completely different processes — and professional whitening, done correctly, causes neither enamel loss nor permanent damage.
Bleaching works by breaking down organic colour molecules (chromogens) within the enamel structure using hydrogen peroxide. It does not remove enamel. Erosion is caused by acid — from fizzy drinks, citrus, charcoal pastes — which chemically dissolves enamel over time.
Sensitivity is the most common side effect — it's temporary. The hydrogen peroxide temporarily makes enamel more porous, which can make teeth more reactive for 24–48 hours. We use potassium nitrate-based desensitising gel before and after every whitening session to minimise this.
Have sensitive teeth? Ask us first →The Vita shade guide is the universal standard dentists use to measure tooth colour. A4 is a common natural starting shade — yellow-orange. B1 is the lightest natural shade on the scale.
Vita shade comparison is illustrative. Individual results depend on baseline shade and tooth structure. Your exact result is assessed at the free shade consultation.
The first 48 hours post-whitening are the most critical. Follow these guidelines and your results will last significantly longer.
